BEDFORD – Duke Energy installs, owns, and operates 34 fast chargers at 17 locations across Indiana, including Bedford, to provide a foundational level of EV infrastructure and facilitate market growth for electric cars.
There are now charging stations for electric cars located on 16th Street between the Bedford City Hall and the Bedford Chamber of Commerce Building. The station will charge four vehicles at the same time. It will take about 30 minutes to charge a car.
According to Plugshare.com, the City of Bedford in Indiana has 15 public and six free EV charging stations. Bedford has a total of two DC Fast Chargers.
The Board of Works approved a five-year contract with Duke, allowing the city to take over the program, either removing the charging station or continuing with Duke.
Duke Energy EV Programs are part of a larger statewide network partially funded by the Indiana Volkswagen Beneficiary Mitigation Trust to install 61 new EV charging locations. Other major electric utilities involved include AES Indiana, Indiana Michigan Power (AEP), CenterPoint Energy, NIPSCO, WVPA, Hoosier Energy, and Crawfordsville Power & Light. This transformative plan will help ensure an EV fast charging station is located every 30 to 50 miles throughout Indiana and will create a robust EV network for many years.
