MITCHELL – The first of three public hearings are scheduled for Lawrence County’s newest fire territory south of White River.
The meetings will be held at the Mitchell Community Center.
- Wednesday, February 21, at 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 6th at 6:00 p.m.
The vote on the fire territory has to be completed before April.
The new fire territory will be manned around the clock with full-time firefighters and an emergency medical responder or EMT.
Mitchell City officials say the ambulance will remain south of the White River.
A dedicated 911 ambulance service is needed now south of White River. Currently, there are not enough ambulances to cover Lawrence County. This has been a problem for years.
After the final public hearing, the Township Advisory Boards will vote and make a written determination on adopting the new fire territory. Once approved, the fire territory will become active.
