Be sure you know what to expect for the April 8 eclipse

BEDFORD- Valerie Luchauer, Lawrence County’s Emergency Management Director, will have a presentation on what to expect on April 8th when Lawrence County experiences a Total Eclipse.  The program will be held at the Otis Park Bath House at 6 pm on Tuesday, February 27.

The Total Eclipse will bring thousands of people to our area and will have ripple effects throughout our community. According to Justus O’Neil from Indiana Tourism, this Eclipse will be the biggest event in Indiana’s history. He said if we can get people here for April 8th, many of them will come back again.

Luchauer will inform people on what to expect, what the County has done to prepare, and things to do and not do to prepare for an event that many people are willing to travel around the globe to see. She will discuss travel issues that are likely to occur that day, including expected bottlenecks and what to expect with local shortages based on total eclipses in other communities. Bring your questions for Valerie to help everyone understand what to expect and how to prepare for April 8.

Lawrence County is fortunate to be on the path of this special event. The County has some special events planned and is working to celebrate this amazing natural phenomenon. A total eclipse will happen in any given location only once every 100 years or so, so make sure you don’t miss this one.

Please RSVP for the program by February 26 so we know how many people to expect by calling 812-275-5692 or emailing gdorsett@bedford.in.us.Mark your calendars too for the March program on March 26, which will be on Indiana Lookout Towers. Teena Ligman will give a history of Lookout Towers in Indiana, showing where you can still find the remaining lookouts and stories of some of our local towers.
