The driver, when he saw the police vehicle, went back into the right lane of travel and then pulled into Bandana’s parking lot at 5th and M Streets. Sgt. Bade activated his emergency lights to stop the driver. The male driver exited the vehicle and attempted to go inside the bar.
The driver was 33-year-old Rex Luttrell of Oolitic.
Sgt. Bade said Luttrell smelled of alcohol, his balance was unsteady, and his speech was slurred.
Luttrell said he had just left Shorty’s Bar & Grill and had a few drinks.
Luttrell failed several field sobriety tests. He submitted to a portable breath test and had a blood alcohol content of 0.164.
Luttrell was detained on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated per se, OWI endangerment, and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
