BEDFORD – A Mitchell man was arrested on Saturday, March 2, at 1:51 a.m. after Indiana State Trooper Jesse Crane spotted the driver of a silver Ford Escape making unsafe lane changes and having an expired license plate at State Road 37 and 16th Street.
Trooper Crane stopped the driver, 34-year-old Ryan Zike.
Zike had slurred speech and glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol. He failed several field sobriety tests. He submitted to a preliminary breath test and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.108 percent. He was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood draw and those results are pending.
Zike said he had been drinking at a buddy’s house and had consumed six 16-ounce Coors Lights and ate a THC gummy but stated it was a legal one. He was traveling to Denny’s to get something to eat.
Zike was detained on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI endangerment.
