BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on Friday, March 15, after Bedford Police officers were requested to Burger King after a report of a woman passed out in the driver’s seat of a black SUV. The caller said the woman had her foot on the brake pedal.
When Officer Nicholas Crulo arrived at 4:37 a.m., he found the black SUV facing north in the parking lot. He approached the driver’s side. The vehicle was running and in gear.
The driver, 39-year-old Amanda York, was passed out behind the wheel and would not respond when spoken to.
Major Blake Wade arrived, and Officer Crulo unlocked the SUV. Major Wade reached in, placed the vehicle in park, and removed the keys. Officers then attempted to wake York but were unsuccessful. An IU LifeLine ambulance responded. York finally woke but was lethargic and unable to answer questions.
While being evaluated by EMS, Lawrence County Canine Officer Joshua Rhoades was requested to the scene. Dusty alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle.
York refused to be transported to the hospital for treatment. She told police she did not know if her vehicle contained anything illegal.
During a search of the SUV, police found an ibuprofen pill bottle in York’s purse. Inside the bottle was a clear cellophane wrapper containing crystal meth.
York was then detained.
They also located Alprazolam, which is a controlled substance. They also found a sock in her purse that contained a purple stray with meth residue and a clear baggie containing crystal meth. In total, police found five grams of meth.
York was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of possession of meth between five and 10 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a Schedule 4 controlled substance.
