BEDFORD — An Indianapolis man was arrested after a report of an erratic driver traveling south on State Road 37 from the Lawrence Monroe County line.
The caller reported that at 11:30 p.m., the gray or white pickup driver could not maintain their travel lane and had run off the roadway. The truck had just passed the Judah junction at State Road 37 and Old State Road 37.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Cliff Pruitt responded. When he reached the area of State Road 37 and Washboard Road, he saw the pickup driver make a U-turn into the northbound left lane of State Road 37. He began to follow the vehicle. The driver ran off the roadway and into the median. The driver veered into the right lane of the northbound lane and swerved back into the left land. Officer Pruett initiated a traffic stop. The driver stopped south of the intersection of State Road 37 and Old State Road 37.
The driver was 30-year-old Dustin England of Indianapolis. Officer Pruett said England smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. England said he had a few beers at a bar.
England failed several field sobriety tests.
England said he had just moved to Bloomington and was unfamiliar with the area. He claimed he had about four beers at a bar.
England performed a breathalyzer test and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.190 percent. He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
