OOLITIC – An Oolitic man was arrested on a warrant charging him with domestic battery and strangulation after a domestic fight on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a domestic fight in the first block of Maddox Lane at 11:28 a.m.
A woman was calling from her place of employment in Oolitic. She told police that at 10:18 a.m., she was in her bedroom, and there was an exchange of words with 35-year-old Joshua Condrey. He then grabbed her by her arms, threw her on the bed, and proceeded to choke her. She told police every time she attempted to get up he would hold her down. She struggled to breathe and speak and thought Condrey was going to kill her. She said it was the “scariest thing she ever experienced, and she didn’t know if she was going to live or die.”
The children were not home during the altercation.
The woman said she talked to Condrey on the phone after the incident, and he told her “he wasn’t trying to kill her, and he knows what strength it takes to kill her and stopped before it got to that point.”
She told police her neck was tender to the touch. Police said there were red marks under the chin and on her throat. There was also a bruise on her left bicep.
The woman signed a battery affidavit.
Police went to the home on Maddox Lane and attempted to locate Condrey. He had left the home in a silver Cavalier, but police were unable to locate him.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of domestic battery and strangulation.
