BEDFORD – A Bloomington man was recently arrested on an arrest warrant for drug charges after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped for a traffic violation on July 27, 2023.
Police arrested 36-year-old Mark Singleton on charges of possession of meth, dealing and possession of a controlled substance, possession of a legend drug, and possession of marijuana.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on that day, former Oolitic Town Marshal James Harrington was on patrol when he stopped a 2011 white Toyota Camry for driving on the shoulder of State Road 37 at Trogdon Lane. He smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Singleton was a passenger in the vehicle. He admitted he had a meth pipe in the vehicle. He also admitted he had eaten the marijuana cigarette before being pulled over.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Harrison Fleetwood, Sgt. Andrew Tillett and Deputy Shaun Cabral assisted at the scene.
During a search of the vehicle, police found a glass smoking pipe with 0.270 grams of meth in it, and a baggy that contained meth residue. They also found crystal meth particles, 0.160 grams, in the passenger seat and on the floorboard where Simpleton was sitting. Police say Singleton deliberately poured the drug on the floorboard and seat while attempting to eat the drug. Singleton denied the allegation.
Police also found Buprenorphine Hydrochloride, Fluoxetine Hydrochloride, and Suboxone Naloxone Hydrochloride pills along with a jar containing THC, THC wax, and smoking devices.
Due to Simpleton possibly ingesting the meth, he was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital and released at the time until police served the arrest warrant leading to his recent arrest.
