LOOGOOTEE – Bedford North Lawrence continued its hot streak and solid play with a 4-1 victory over Loogootee during girls high school tennis action on Tuesday.
The Stars (3-1 in dual matches with three consecutive wins) swept the doubles to subdue the Lions (3-2).
“It was a great win for our girls,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “Loogootee is always a very good team. I had a slightly different lineup again tonight and I like it equally. We have a few girls who are so interchangeable, which is actually good for us.”
Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge extended their unbeaten match streak to 26 straight with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brooklyn Knepp and Macy Knepp at No.1, while the new tandem of Jessie Faubion and Emma Conover conquered Ashlynn Gilbert and Cora Consley 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in a three-set battle at No.2.
“Our No.1 doubles did their job,” Stigall said. “They have been the better team so far in each match. They are experienced and just a good team. I don’t have to coach them too much, they just play how we practice.
“Our two doubles was a new combo, who I liked equally with my other combos. They fought and figured things out, and I’m just so proud of them for that. They could have given up but fought in that third set for their win. I can’t ask for more than that.”
In singles, BNL’s Ava McKinney stopped Addy Lengacher 6-2, 6-2 at No.2, and Nadia Anderson remained undefeated this season with a 6-0, 6-1 conquest of Marley McAtee at No.3.
“Ava was a beast tonight,” Stigall said. “She can annoy really good players, to the point that they are totally off their game. I love that. She may not always be a better player but does all she can to find a way to win. Nadia was solid. She is a solid No.3 player who I have total confidence in. I expect wins from her always.”
Loogootee’s lone win came at No.1 singles as Charlotte Truchon-Bartes (an exchange student from Germany) topped Becca Epping 6-2, 6-2.
“Becca played well, but in a No.1 singles spot, you play the best and she ran into a really good player,” Stigall said. “That’s why we’re a team. All four other spots did their job.”
The Stars will host Jennings County on Thursday.
