MONROE CO. — Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors plans to reopen South Smith Road at State Road 46 on or after Thursday, May 2, weather permitting.
Following the reopening of South Smith Road, Milestone Contractors will close the North Smith Road approach at State Road 46 as soon as Monday, May 6, to conduct intersection improvement work in Bloomington.
Motorists traveling east and westbound S.R. 46 cannot turn onto North Smith Road until early July, weather permitting. Local access for businesses in the area will be maintained. The sidewalk will be closed at the approach while work is in progress. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour route, which follows State Road 46 westbound to the East State Road 46 Bypass to State Road 45 to North Smith Road.
This contract was awarded to Milestone Contractors in May 2023. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, be cautious, and avoid distractions when traveling near work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
