LINTON— BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, is prompting a national call for adoption again this spring with its “Empty the Shelters” reduced-fee adoption event May 1 – 15.
The Greene County Humane Society and more than 410 shelters in 43 states will participate. To help deserving shelter pets find loving homes, BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees of $50 or less per cat or dog during each nationwide event.

Linton, IN 47441, offers $50 adoption fees for dogs and waives adoption fees for cats to approved adopters.
The Greene County Humane Society is open Monday – Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and until 7 p.m. on Fridays.
Each adoptable animal will be spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped with lifetime
registration, and ready to give unconditional love.
All interested adopters can see available animals and apply online.
Adopters are encouraged to apply in advance and receive application approval before arriving at the shelter, as all applicants are required to be approved before adopting.
Waived adoption fees for cats to approved adopters will apply to Greene County Humane Society cats available in the cat lounge at The Cat’s Closet at 223 South Pete Ellis Drive, Suites 1 and 2, in Bloomington.
The Cat’s Closet is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. A small fee may apply to enter the cat lounge.
The Cat’s Closet offers a unique collection of sustainable vintage fashion and a cat lounge, nearly 700 square feet, and typically features 10 to 15 adoptable cats. The lounge is equipped with plenty of seating areas as well as toys and treats for potential adopters and cat lovers alike to engage with all the
cats.

The Greene County Humane Society has participated in several of these past events and is always a great
way to help get pets into forever homes. The Greene County Humane Society is open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 7 p.m. on Fridays. All adoptions require an approved application, so applying in advance is recommended.
Greene County Humane Society President Kegan Inman says, “This event could not possibly come at a more needed time. We have been running over capacity for several months and desperately need adoptions. We hope this event can raise some attention for our animals and encourage more families to explore adoption. Our longer resident, a dog named Beast, has been in the shelter for over 13 months. He is an amazing dog who came to us as a feral puppy. He has really opened up but still can be a shy boy. He is just patiently waiting for the right adopter to come along, someone who understands his needs and is willing to give him the patience and continued work that he requires.”
BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” event is the largest funded adoption event in the country. This lifesaving event began in 2016 to encourage more families to choose adoption.
