Just knowing a fair or festival date is approaching will cause our mouths to drool over all the foods we will enjoy. Some favorite treats are roasted corn, caramel apples, tiger ears, funnel cakes, and colorful snow cones.
Fairs are a fantastic place to learn about local agriculture. Visitors can walk through display barns to view samples of grains, hay, vegetables, fruit, eggs, and horticultural items grown in the county. 4-H clubs create stunning educational visuals of projects ranging from leadership to natural resources.
Show cattle, sheep, goats, horses, poultry, and rabbits are also displayed at the fair.
Festival and Fairgoers delight in riding the Ferris wheel and playing carnival games, but rides and games are the only two types of entertainment you’ll find. Some feature limestone or wood carving, rodeos, live entertainment, tractor pulls, and antique tractor shows.
Fair and festivalgoers can watch the king, queen, and court crowning. The talent competition showcases the county’s best singers, jugglers, and comedians. Grandstand and bandstand entertainment offers an array of derbies, races, and concerts. And everyone loves a parade.
If your fair or festival should be added to the list, please email Holly Davis at hdavisgm@gmail.com.
