Lt. Gov. Crouch, IHCDA launch crowdfunding campaign for VCL Veterans Field Project

VINCENNES – Young Knox County baseball enthusiasts will have a better place to play if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by July 7, 2024. If successful, the project led by Vincennes Cub League (VCL) will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) CreatINg Places program.

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch

“We are excited at the prospect of rehabilitating this space so Knox County residents can enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle,” said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. “Exercise and sports have an immense impact on one’s health and quality of life. This enhanced baseball field will make physical activity more attainable and fun for middle school teams and the community at large.”

Funds from this campaign will be used to update the existing Senior League Field with safer bleachers, press boxes, poles for netting, new infield irrigation, new sod, upgrades to the dugout, and improvements to the scoreboard so more young people and players can enjoy the facility.

“The VCL board is very excited for this project,” said Chad Deckard, Vincennes Cub League Vice President. “We are committed to providing top quality facilities to the players and families here in Vincennes and the surrounding communities. With the makeover of Veterans’ Field, we look to expand our league play for the 13-to-15-year-olds as well as provide an ideal facility for our Vincennes Clark Middle School baseball teams. We are very grateful to IHCDA and Patronicity for making this fundraiser a reality. We thank our donors in advance for any support you can provide.”

Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $10.7 million in public funds and an additional $8.9 million in matching IHCDA funds. The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local units of government are eligible to apply. Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
