BLOOMINGTON— Due to high waters, Monroe, Fairfax, and Paynetown beaches will not open this weekend.
Due to recent heavy rains raising the water level, officials have delayed opening the swimming beaches at both Paynetown and Fairfax SRAs. The beaches will be CLOSED for the upcoming holiday weekend.
Seawalls at both beaches are currently underwater, posing a safety hazard, and officials cannot prep the sand until water levels drop sufficiently. Most of the sand at both locations is presently under the water.
The beachhouses also remain closed at both locations; they will open when the beaches open.
Officials will open the beaches as soon as conditions allow.
