COLUMBUS – Bedford North Lawrence seniors Izzy Alldredge and Kenley Craig suffered a tough three-set loss during the individual state tournament sectional championship on Thursday.
Lawrenceburg’s Sarah McAndrew and Jenna May posted a 6-7 (4-7 in the tiebreaker), 7-5, 7-5 triumph during action on the indoor courts at Tipton Lakes Athletic Club.
“They are heartbroken,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “It was a long, hard match. We couldn’t have played too much better. We did so many good things. We had some errors at the wrong times but they played a great team.
“This doubles team is one of the best I’ve had – not the most athletic team or hardest-hitting team, but probably the smartest team. Their court IQ made them a hard team to beat and I’m so proud of them. Since their freshman year, we have worked to our strengths – placing the ball, placement over power. They have continued this strategy and it did so well for them. They have nothing to be ashamed of in this loss.”
McAndrew and May will now compete in the regionals at BNL on June 1.
