Obituary: Shawna Donielle Williams

April 7, 1970 – May 25, 2024

Shawna Donielle Williams, 54, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at IU Health Hospice House.

Born April 7, 1970, in Carmel, she was the daughter of Jerome “Jerry” Horn and Donna Lee (McKinney) Decker.  Shawna married David Williams on July 18, 1992 and he survives.

Shawna graduated from Mitchell High School in 1989. She then attended Purdue University and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Physical Science from Troy State University. Shawna homeschooled her two sons for 16 years, and after they graduated, she worked at Jill’s House Memory Care as an Activities Coordinator. She also worked as a nurse, volunteered at a crisis pregnancy center for years, and visited and volunteered at nursing homes.  Shawna was an AFFA-certified aerobics instructor.

Shawna loved Jesus and God’s creation. She watched wildlife, hiked, biked, and camped. She was a very active member of the churches she attended, starting when she taught Sunday school at 16. She went to churches in Alabama, South Carolina, and finally to Tulip Street Christian Church in Mitchell. 

Shawna taught children’s church, helped with vacation bible school and youth groups, and participated in women’s programs, missions ministry, and bell choirs.  She also enjoyed attending other churches in the area. Shawna participated in short-term mission trips in various places in the United States, Belize, Honduras, and Kenya. 

She was active in the Little Theater of Bedford and The Chosen. For several years, Shawna volunteered as a drop-off coordinator for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child in Lawrence County. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend.

Surviving are her husband, David Williams of Bedford; sons, Joseph David Williams of Bedford and Nathan Lee Williams of Bedford; father, Jerome “Jerry” Horn; step-mother, Janet (Williams) Horn; brother, Jered (Laura) Horn of Joplin, Missouri; five step-siblings; and several nieces and nephews.

Her mother preceded her in death.                

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Jim Valentine, Brother Darrin Chastain, and Brother Daniel Lee officiating.  The service will be live-streamed on the Chastain Funeral Home Facebook page.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
