BEDFORD—On Friday, May 17th, Mitchell High School held its graduation ceremony, with Shaylin Thomas being named valedictorian.
Shaylin Thomas was named valedictorian, graduating with a 4.3 GPA. Shaylin shared with WBIW that she has been in the top 10 of her class since she began high school, saying that her being valedictorian came down to her performance on the week of finals. Her father, Doug Thomas, was a teacher at Mitchell High for eleven years and shared that he was so proud seeing how hard his daughter worked, especially seeing other really intelligent and hardworking students. “Her mother and I are so proud,” he shared. Shaylin served on her student council and was a member of Mitchell High School’s art club. “I tried to heavily involve myself in clubs that worked to make our school and community a better place,” she shared. Shaylin plans to attend the University of Evansville to pursue a career in psychology.
