COLUMBUS — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people on charges of narcotic drug charges and driving with a suspended license after they fled the scene on Thursday.
Police arrested 32-year-old Sarah Caffee of Columbus on charges of resisting arrest, resisting arrest with a vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while driver’s license suspended, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of a narcotic drug, unlawful possession of a legend drug and possession of cocaine.
Donovan Martin, 27, of Columbus, faces charges of possession of a narcotic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license.
Both are being held in the Bartholomew County Jail.
According to a press release from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, an officer recognized the driver. The deputy already knew that Caffee’s driving privileges were suspended, which led him to initiate the traffic stop on the vehicle.
The vehicle failed to stop and fled for several blocks before stopping. The two occupants then fled on foot.
Caffee was located nearby on Newton Street and was taken into custody without incident. Martin was also found nearby and taken into custody shortly after that.
Police searched the vehicle and found drugs and drug paraphernalia. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found after the foot pursuit that Martin dropped while he was running from the scene.
Caffee told police she didn’t stop the vehicle because Martin threatened her with a handgun and instructed her to drive on. Police say no firearms were found in the car nor in the area of the foot pursuit.
