BEDFORD— Lawrence County is the 34th largest county in the state by population and 26th in veterans living there.
Lawrence County Veterans Affair Officer Brad Bough shared the Fiscal Year 2023 Geographic Distribution of Expenditures report with the commissioners Tuesday morning.
“We lost 40 veterans in 2023,” added Bough. “There are 3,597 veterans in Lawrence County.”
Total expenditures for those veterans was $36,398,000 in 2023.
“But what is even more important is those veterans, their dependents, and widows is they have received $22,748,000 in 2023 compensation and pensions,” added Bough. “That is an increase from $21,452,000 in 2022.”
Bough also thanked Bedford North Lawrence High School Athletic Director Jeff Callahan for offering veterans a discount on the All Sports Pass.
“The All Sports Pass cost 125,” said Bough. “But it is being offered at a discount to veterans. BNL has signed a letter discounting the pass $50. I would love to hear from Mitchell and see if they could offer the same.”
