BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence senior Kline Woodward and junior Cal Gates were named to the Hoosier Hills Conference First Team by the league coaches.
Woodward, who signed with Lincoln Trail College, hit a team-high .412 with 2 home runs and a team-best 32 RBIs as a third baseman. He also went 5-3 on the mound with 2.29 ERA while striking out 56 in 45 2/3 innings.
Gates, an Indiana University recruit in the outfield, hit .338 with 3 homers, 15 RBIs and a team-best 30 runs scored. He also made five appearances on the mound for the Stars, who went 17-12.
Floyd Central, the league and Class 4A regional champion, had four players on the First Team, including Clayton Schroeder, Kayden Linares, Blane Metz and Will Zurschmeide.
The rest of the First Team included Columbus East’s Blake Borkhardt and Jackson Watkins; Jeffersonville’s Logan Bingham; Jennings County’s Austin Byford; New Albany’s Chase Loesch and Maxwell Alexander; and Seymour’s Bret Perry, Jack Pennington and Braden Richey.
