Woman arrested after injury accident when meth is found in her system

BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on alcohol-related charges after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Officers responded to an accident in the 1000 block of Coveyville Road on February 4, 2024.

When Officer Thomas Porter arrived, firefighters and EMS were providing medical care to 44-year-old Steven Levay, who was on the ground near his motorcycle.

Brittany Stovall, 27, was the driver of a 1998 Honda Civic.

Levay, who suffered severe lower extremity injuries to both legs, was transported by air ambulance to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Stovall told police she was driving home from work at Johnny Junxion when she turned into her driveway on Coveyville Road. While turning, a motorcycle driven by Levay drove around the curve, and she struck the motorcycle.

Judge Robert Cline issued warrants for blood draws for both drivers.

Police also learned that Levay’s license plate did not return to the Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving and that it was expired.

According to police, Levay’s blood tested positive for meth, opiates and benzodiazepine.

According to police, Stovall’s blood tested positive for meth and amphetamine.

Police requested warrants for the arrest of both Stovall and Levay.

Stovall was arrested on Friday, June 7, on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, and operating a vehicle with no valid driver’s license.
