BEDFORD – Two Bloomington residents are imprisoned after Lawrence County Superior Court Judge Robert Cline revoked their probations.
Glenda Smith, 44, of Bloomington, was sentenced to prison after she failed to comply with the terms of her probation.
Smith pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of meth on September 21, 2023, in a negotiated plea deal. She was sentenced to 910 days and given credit for 25 days served. The remainder of her sentence was suspended. She was ordered to serve 545 days on supervised probation.
After failing to comply with the terms of her probation, Lawrence County Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline sentenced Smith to 800 days in prison. She was given 18 days credit.
“Judge Cline is not easily persuaded when someone has violated their probation,” said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Brittany Van Winkle. “Judge Cline would prefer for defendants to rehabilitate themselves through probation, but if they commit repeated violations, he will hold them to their original plea agreements and their associated sentences.”
Eric Kern, 49, of Bloomington, pleaded guilty to possession of meth on April 18, 2024, as part of a negotiated plea deal.
Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline sentenced him to 545 days, with credit for six days served and the remainder suspended. He was also ordered to serve 533 days on supervised probation.
However, after failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his probation, on May 10, 2024, Judge Cline revoked Kern’s suspended sentence and sentenced him to 516 days in the Indiana Department of Correction.
“Defendants in Lawrence County are truly fortunate in that they are offered ample opportunities to redirect their path in life,” said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Van Winkle. “However, if a defendant does not want to cooperate with our probation team, they will continue following their path right to prison.”
