Judge sentences man to prison after violating the terms of his probation

BEDFORD – Lawrence Superior Court I Judge John M. Plummer III sentenced a Bedford man to prison after failing to comply with the terms of his probation.

Corbett May

Corbett May, 51, pled guilty to charges of domestic battery and resisting law enforcement in a negotiated plea agreement.

Judge Plummer was sentenced to 910 days in prison. He suspended 848 days of that sentence. He was placed on supervised probation for 545 days.

After violating his probation, Judge Pummer revoked May’s suspended sentence and sentenced May to 816 days in the Indiana Department of Correction with credit for 85 days served.

Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings

“Judge Plummer tells each defendant who violates their probation that probation is not a right in Indiana. Defendants are warned that failing to follow the terms of their probation could result in the full execution of their sentence. After violating his probation several times, May was order to serve out the rest of his sentence,” said Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings.

May was arrested on Monday, September 5, 2022, after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Mitchell Police officers responded to a report of a domestic fight at 4:01 p.m. in the 1000 block of Blue Springs Cavern Road.

When police arrived, they spoke to May and then detained him, but May resisted, causing injury to two officers.

Officers then spoke to a female at the home. The female told police that May got upset over a text message. She attempted to walk away as May yelled at her, and that was when May shoved her and left the room.

Officers arrested May on charges of domestic battery, resisting arrest, and battery on a public safety official.
