WILLIAMS – A Williams man was arrested on June 22 after Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a male reporting 21-year-old Tyson Garland was drunk and pointing a loaded weapon at a woman and her friends.
Sheriff’s Department deputies Miller, Carter, and Trueblood responded to a home in the 300 block of State Road 458.
As police approached the house, Garland peeked his head out of the south entrance and retreated back inside.
Officers were unsure if Garland was still in possession of a weapon and approached the house with their guns drawn.
Police commanded Garland to exit the home, which he did and he was detained.
Garland admitted to shooting a 9mm Taurus into the ground to scare a woman along with others who were with her because he felt threatened by them, claiming they were bombarding him.
Garland was transported to jail, while other deputies responded to the 1000 block of State Road 158 to speak to the woman and others involved.
Sgt. Compton and Deputy Tillett secured a search warrant for Garland’s home. They recovered the 9mm Taurus and a second weapon. Police said eight rounds were still in the Taurus in the 12-round magazine. Four spent rounds were found on the porch.
Garland was arrested on six counts of intimidation with a deadly weapon, six counts of criminal recklessness, six counts of intimidation, four counts of pointing a firearm at another person, and two counts of child neglect.
