BLOOMINGTON- The City of Bloomington, in partnership with Downtown Bloomington, Inc., will celebrate the installation of PRISMA by artist Esteban Garcia Bravo from 9-10 p.m. PM on Friday, July 12. The ceremony will take place at the site of the installation located in the south alley of the Fourth Street Garage. The celebration will feature music by local DJ Ian Sundstrom and live performances organized by The Back Door.
PRISMA is an interactive and immersive light installation that invites visitors to re-activate “invisible” urban spaces with renewed excitement. The three “prisms” that make up the piece act as a foundation to create an open-air tunnel with a free-flowing, animated, lighted experience.
Esteban Garcia Bravo created PRISMA for the 2023 Exhibit Columbus Architecture Biennial in Columbus, Indiana, for which the City of Bloomington was a partner. PRISMA’s re-installation in Bloomington will continue Bloomington’s collaboration with Exhibit Columbus and is intended to bolster a sense of community and place for Bloomington residents and visitors.
“This second version of the PRISMA installation comes after a year of being presented at Exhibit Columbus in 2023,” said Garcia Bravo. “In this new installation for the City of Bloomington, we added an element of interactivity that was originally intended for this piece by creating a light tunnel that triggers different light sequences as participants walk through it. I would like to thank my collaborators for making this dream possible!”
Esteban Garcia Bravo’s artwork Aurora Almanac is installed in the Trades District Garage in Bloomington as part of the City’s One Percent for the Arts program.
