OWEN CO. — Owen County Sheriff’s Department detectives are continuing to investigate how 23-year-old Malik Sims of Bloomington died.
His body was found Monday afternoon along Stephenson Road near the Owen/Monroe County line by a passing motorist who called 911.
His family believes Sims was shot and killed and his body dumped.
According to the family, Sims did not return home on Sunday night, and no one could reach him. His roommate pinged his phone to a location on the rural gravel road. When the friend arrived, he found the area surrounded by crime tape.
Owen County Coroner Shelby Hershberger says no cause of death can be released until an autopsy is performed. That is scheduled for Thursday. She added it would take weeks for toxicology results to return.
Investigators say no other information will be released at this time to “protect the integrity of the case.”
