BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Wednesday, July 17, on a charge of public intoxication after a Bedford Police officer spotted him stumbling alarmingly close to the left lane of 16th Street.
Bedford Police Department Major Clint Swanson was on routine patrol in the area of 16th and L Streets when he noticed a male in a white cutoff t-shirt and gray pants and sunglasses stumbling close to 16th Street.
Major Swanson stopped and exited his vehicle to speak to 32-year-old Justin Parsley. He was leaning forward and unaware that Major Swanson was near him.
Major Swanson said Parsley smelled of alcohol and had pinpointed pupils and slurred speech.
Parsley told Major Swanson he lived in the 1000 block of O Street. He was told to go home and stay there. Parsley walked on the sidewalk west to the intersection of 16th and M Street without incident and then crossed 16th Street, and the officer left the scene.
At approximately 5:12 p.m., dispatch received multiple 911 calls stating a male matching Parsley’s description was currently walking in the middle of M Street and was almost hit by a vehicle.
Officer Landon Jones found Parsley walking in the roadway near the intersection of 21st and M Streets.
He was detained and taken to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a medical evaluation due to his intoxicated state. Once medically cleared, he was transported to the Bedford Police Department and then jailed on a charge of public intoxication.
