Obituary: John ‘Doug’ Douglas Dowling

May 23, 1965 – July 26, 2024

John ‘Doug’ Douglas Dowling (Doug) passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024. He spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones and in the comfort of his home.

Doug was born to John and Susan Dowling in Lawrence County on May 23, 1965. He was preceded in death by his father, his father-in-law, Joe Cox, and sister-in-law, Linda Lake Combs.

Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra Cox Dowling; his son, Derek Dowling, and daughter-in-law, Ashley, his grandchildren Alicesan, Ember, and Ryan William Dowling. He is also survived by his mother; his brother, Chris (Angela) Dowling; his sisters, Melissa (Stacy) Brown and Tabitha Gabhart; his brother-in[laws Rocky (Shelly) Cox, and Terry Cox, close family friend Dustin Gabhart, and several close nieces and nephews.

Doug’s grandchildren were his pride and joy, followed closely by his bass boat. One of his favorite events was the annual family deer camp at Hoosier National Forest. He was also a hunter and collector of arrowheads and historical artifacts. He was a true outdoorsman. If you knew him, you knew him.

Doug’s legacy will live through the love of his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the mortuary.
