State Police investigating fatal crash on I-65 in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLISOn Monday, just before 9:00 a.m., Indiana State Police Dispatchers began receiving 911 calls about a serious crash involving a pedestrian on I-65 near the 107-mile marker.

When first responders from Indianapolis Fire Department and ISP arrived, they located an adult male unresponsive lying in the roadway. That man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation at the scene determined a man was trying to run across the interstate. Several vehicles had to take evasive action to avoid hitting the man.

The driver of a Kia SUV struck the man who was in the roadway. That driver remained on scene and, per Indiana State Law, submitted to a blood draw. For the driver, neither alcohol nor drugs are expected to be a factor in this crash.

There were no disabled vehicles in the area, and investigators were unsure where the man was coming from or going.

The family of the deceased has been notified, and all I-65 lanes are now open.
