BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington North cruised to a 9-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school soccer action on Monday.
The Cougars exploded for five goals during a six-minute span late in the first half to pull away.
Caroline Farmer scored four goals, all in the first half, including two in a 90-second span early in the first half. The other goals came from Erica Urheim (two in the first half), Camilla Ensign, Daphne Wright and Heidi Chambre (with 22:46 left to trigger the mercy-rule finish).
“We played with them for the first 10 minutes, but after they scored a couple goals we really let down and let them put several more in one right after another,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said. “The second half we only played for 20 minutes due to the score, but we played with them for those 20 minutes and gave up a lot less goals than we did the first half. If we would have played like that whole game the score would have been different.
“They had a strong offense and were very good at connecting passes. We had a couple of good offensive plays but had trouble communicating and connecting passes. We also had a hard time defending them. They had some very quick and skilled dribblers.”
BNL (0-2) will visit Floyd Central for the Hoosier Hills Conference opener on Aug. 27.
