James Stanley Mundy, Sr., 85, of Mitchell, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at his residence.
Born October 24, 1938, in Huron, he was the son of George and Blanche (King) Mundy. He married Barbara Jean Goldsberry on May 18, 1962, and she preceded him in death on February 26, 2020.
James worked for National Gypsum in the board plant, retiring in 2004 after 44 years. He was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ and an avid fisherman. He also loved putting up Christmas lights and tinkering in the garage.
Surviving are his children, Sheri Ellen (Kyle) Mundy of Mitchell, Sandra Jeanenne (John) Abel of Shoals, and James Stanley (Amy) Mundy, Jr. of Shoals; eleven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Tolbert of Williams; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His parents; wife; grandsons, Waylon Abel and Derek Abel; great-grandson, Porter Winginer; brothers, Kenneth Mundy, Dorrie G. Mundy, and Norman Darrell Mundy; and brother-in-law, Herald Tolbert, preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, with Kris Beasley officiating. Burial will be at Clark Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
