MITCHELL — The Mitchell Police arrested 36-year-old William C. Weaver on charges of battery following a domestic incident reported on the evening of Sunday, September 15. Weaver, who resides at 112 South 3rd Street, was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting his female caretaker.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Sergeant Jacob Kuhlman, police were dispatched to Weaver’s residence at approximately 7:22 p.m. following a report of a physical altercation. Upon arrival, officers contacted his female caretaker. She stated that Weaver, whom she provides care for due to his medical and mental health conditions, became agitated and threw a lunchbox at her. After attempting to return the lunchbox, Weaver reportedly attacked her, grabbing her hair, trying to bite her leg, and injuring her arm and palm.
Weaver’s female roommate, who also requires caretaker assistance, witnessed the altercation. She confirmed the caretaker’s account, stating that she saw Weaver hitting the caretaker, and acknowledged that Weaver had displayed similar behavior in the past.
When questioned by police, Weaver admitted to becoming angry but said he could not recall the cause of his outburst. He acknowledged throwing the lunchbox and admitted, “For some reason, we started hitting each other.” He also confirmed that he may have twisted the caretaker’s arm and attempted to bite her during the altercation.
Weaver was arrested on a battery charge and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
The Mitchell Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
