LAWRENCE CO. – The Lawrence County Commissioners have issued a burn ban for Lawrence County due to moderate drought conditions and elevated risk of fire danger.
“The ban will go into effect today at Noon and last seven days unless we get a lot of rain,” said Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer. “At the end of the seven days, the ban will be extended for another seven days if needed.”
Currently, 44 counties are under a burn ban. To see a complete list, click here.
Although some local exceptions may exist, a burn ban means open burning is prohibited, including burning vegetation, brush, non-contained wood or timber, and building construction material.
Campfires and recreational fires are allowed if they are contained in a burn ring or fire pit. Gas and charcoal grills are permitted. When using charcoal, it must be fully extinguished when finished.
