Obituary: Manson E. York

July 24, 1941 – September 20, 2024

Manson E. York, 83, of Oolitic, passed away at 1:48 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at his residence.

Born July 24, 1941, in Orleans, IN, he was the son of Willis Edward and Nellie Clois (Hustler) York. He married Brenda Kay Webb on March 14, 1960, and she preceded him in death on April 13, 1995. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene and the Valley Mission Church. He retired from the Monon Railroad as a dump truck operator. Manson enjoyed watching Western movies, Hot Rod Girl, and playing with his great-grandchildren, and he was an avid gun and knife collector.

Survivors include two sons: James York and wife Mari of Shelburn, IN, and Roy York of Bedford; a daughter: Norma Kay Mayle and husband Jeffrey of Spencer; 13 grandchildren: Joseph, Josh, Isaiah, Nikki, Roy Jr., Levi, Cody, Amanda (Brandon), Anthony (Bree), Meisha (Evan) Matthew (Ashley) who were his caregivers, Patric (Kayla) Micah (Olivia); 23 great grandchildren; five brothers: Charlie York, Cecil York and wife Barbara, David York and wife Debbie, Jerry York and wife Irene, Frankie Parsons, Lewis York, and wife Nancy; four sisters: Debbie Neeley, Linda Ray, Rosemary Yother and husband Bill, Patricia York; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, Michael Alan York and Larry Duane York, three sisters, Patricia York, Marsha Webb, and Connie Masters, and three brothers, Robert York, Johnny York, and Raymond York.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24th, at the Green Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bob Brown and Pastor Bucky Charles officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
