BEDFORD – The Bedford Parks Department, in collaboration with Urban Soil Health and Lawrence County Soil & Water Conservation District, is excited to announce an upcoming event focused on fall gardening tasks to improve garden soil health.
Megan Ayers from Urban Soil Health and staff from Lawrence County Soil & Water Conservation District will lead the event, which will feature a presentation on creating a lasagna gardening bed. The bed, prepared last November and freshly planted with fall vegetables, will be a practical example of the techniques discussed. Participants can look forward to learning about the benefits of a lasagna garden bed and how to set one up.
Additionally, a demonstration of setting up a low tunnel for fall vegetables will offer valuable insights into extending the growing season. The discussion will also cover the advantages of a fall cover crop, the different types of cover crops available, and a demonstration of the simple process of sowing a fall cover crop in a garden. Attendees will even have the opportunity to receive cover crop seeds to sow in their home gardens.
The program is scheduled for September 24th at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford Garden Park, 416 H Street in Bedford.
Interested individuals are encouraged to RSVP by Monday, September 23rd, with the Bedford Parks Department at 812-275-5692 to secure a spot.
