BEDFORD – Friday, September 20, Bedford Police officers arrested Barry Roberts, 50, of Richmond, Kentucky, on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic, and possession of marijuana.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Officer Taylor Daugherty patrolled near State Road 37 and 16th Street around 1:52 a.m. when she observed a 2007 Toyota Camry traveling north without a functioning license plate light. Officer Daugherty initiated a traffic stop.
Upon making contact with the driver, Barry Roberts, and the passenger, Anthony Bartley, both men appeared nervous and did not have valid driver’s licenses or vehicle registration. As the officers continued their investigation, a canine unit from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department was called, and the dog alerted officers to narcotics in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed several illegal substances, including:
- Two clear plastic baggies containing a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine
- A powder-like substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl
- A plastic container with a plant-like substance that field-tested positive for marijuana
Additionally, two hypodermic needles were found in a backpack belonging to the passenger, Anthony Bartley.
Both Roberts and Bartley were detained at the scene.
Bartley was released from the scene.
Roberts was transported to the Lawrence County Jail and charged with possession of meth, possession of a narcotic, and possession of marijuana.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
