MITCHELL- Josalyn Hill of Mitchell took home the top prize in the youth division at the 2024 WQRK/Lite FM Persimmon Idol contest after delivering a show-stopping performance of Valentine by Laufey. Despite a technical hiccup when her music track unexpectedly stopped mid-performance, Josalyn didn’t miss a beat. She continued a cappella, impressing the judges and audience alike with her poise and vocal talent.
Competing against four other talented contestants, ranging in age from 10 to 16, Josalyn’s standout performance earned her the title of 2024 Persimmon Idol. This victory marked her first attempt at the coveted title, making the achievement even more special.
In her acceptance speech, Josalyn expressed gratitude for the honor, stating, “Thank you for awarding me this honor. I’m from a low-income family, and I’m going to put this back for my college education.”
Along with the title, Josalyn received a $500 cash prize and a microphone trophy, marking a memorable moment in her budding singing career.
