Having competed in previous years, Troy applied the feedback from the judges year after year, knowing he needed to step up in the Stage Presence category, which carried a significant 20-point weight in the scoring system. His hard work paid off as he delivered a performance that not only impressed the audience but also Judge Brandi Weyer, who remarked, “I actually saw Bryan Adams in concert last summer, and Troy performed the song better than he did.”

Holly Davis, the owner and president of WQRK and Lite FM radio stations, expressed her excitement about hosting the Persimmon Idol contest year after year. “It’s such a rewarding experience to give back to my hometown of Mitchell and promote emerging talent from Lawrence County and the surrounding areas,” Davis shared. For her, the Persimmon Festival holds special meaning, as it brings back cherished childhood memories of the event and the community.

The Persimmon Idol contest remains a highlight of the annual festival, providing a platform for local talent like Troy King to shine and carry forward the tradition of musical excellence in the area. While the contest celebrates the arts, it also plays a vital role in uniting the community, with Davis at the helm, fostering a spirit of local pride.

Troy’s victory is a testament to dedication and growth, and the festival’s support of homegrown talent continues to be a highlight of this cherished annual event.
