Floyd Central conquers BNL in HHC opener

GALENA – Floyd Central dropped only four games in five matches while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 5-0 in the first round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.

The match was moved to an indoor facility when rain interrupted the contests, and then the Highlanders rained down on the Stars while advancing to the semifinal.

BNL scored its points in doubles. Alex Eichenberger and Michael Fogle topped Orion Hill and Neal Patel 6-0, 6-1 at No.1, while Connor Himmel and Evan Loftus clipped Micah Carter and Wyatt Corbin 6-1, 6-2 at No.2.

“The courts played fast, faster than what we were used to,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “Our doubles teams took their doubles to the limit, especially No.2 doubles. They fought hard out there and never gave up.”

BNL will visit Columbus East for the consolation round on Wednesday.
