Cynthia Herrington of IU Health South Central Region named Ivy Tech Distinguished Alumna

BLOOMINGTON- Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington named Cynthia (Cindy) Herrington, DNP, FNP, NE-BC, OCN, Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer, and Interim Vice President of Professional Services for IU Health South Central Region, its 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. It is the highest honor given to recognize Ivy Tech alumni. Herrington is one of 19 alumni from across the state to be honored with the award.


“Cindy is a true example of Ivy Tech’s mission to provide workforce ready opportunities and prepare graduates to impact their communities and professions,” Heidi Schulz, Executive Director of Development at Ivy Tech Bloomington said. “She has been instrumental in facilitating strong partnerships within the community to mentor, grow, and retain nurses in our local healthcare system.”

Herrington works with teams across the south central Indiana region to uphold healthcare standards and operational management while focusing on patient-centered care. She has served the IU Health organization for over three decades in a wide range of acute care operations across several specialties.

She began her nursing career as an Ivy Tech Bloomington practical nursing program graduate in 1986. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner degree, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She is a board-certified nurse executive and certified oncology nurse.

Herrington is a lifelong Ivy Tech School of Nursing advocate and serves on the Ivy Tech Bloomington Lee J. Marchant School of Nursing Advisory Board. She is also a board member of the Indiana Center for Nursing and belongs to the Regional Collaborative for Nurse Leaders.
