The Re-Launch of Apple Taste 2024

BLOOMINGTON—The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market is hosting a free tasting of more than a dozen locally grown and heirloom apple varieties on Saturday, October 5, from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the Fernandez Plaza at the Saturday Market at  401 North Morton Street in Bloomington.

The event which was scheduled last weekend was postponed due to heavy rains.

Apple varieties available for tasting and for sale at the Farmers’ Market include:

  • Asian Pear
  • Crimson Crisp
  • Enterprise
  • Fugi
  • Golden Delicious
  • Granny Smith
  • Jonathan
  • Mutzu
  • Red Winesap
  • Rhode Island Greening
  • September Wonder
  • Winter Banana

Each fall, the market sells a variety of popular and heirloom apples. Visitors are invited to find a new favorite: a crisp, tart apple perfect for pies or a meaty, thin-skinned apple to enjoy with lunch.

Music at the Market

A singing duo, Mike Steiner and Becky Sprinkle, will start a double-header this Saturday. They’ll begin their performance at 9:30 a.m. on the Circular Stage.

Following Mike and Becky, the Market will showcase the Bloomington Peace Choir—a community of people who love to sing! Since its founding in January 2010, the BPC believes music is a powerful force that can unite people for peace. They’ll begin their performance at 11:30 a.m.

Mayor’s Team at the Table

The Mayor’s Team at the Table is a community outreach program that invites Market-goers to engage with the mayor and various department heads from the City of Bloomington government. 

Tim Street

This Saturday, Tim Street, the director of parks and recreation, will greet the public at the Farmers’ Market between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
