12 year old girl referred to juvenile authorities for writing threatening message at Bloomington school

BLOOMINGTON – A 12-year-old girl has been referred to juvenile authorities following an investigation into a threatening message discovered on a bathroom wall at The Project School in downtown Bloomington. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., a detective from the Bloomington Police Department arrived at the charter school, located at 349 South Walnut Street, to investigate the report of the threatening message. The message was found written inside a bathroom stall and was brought to the attention of school officials by students.

Capt. Ryan Pedigo, who released details about the investigation, did not disclose the exact contents of the message, emphasizing the situation’s sensitivity.

Following the discovery, the detective interviewed several students, with their parents present, to gather more information about the incident. As a result of the investigation, the 12-year-old girl was referred to Monroe County Juvenile Probation for intimidation. If committed by an adult, this charge would be considered a class A misdemeanor.

The Project School, which serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade, has not issued a formal statement regarding the incident, but the safety of its students remains a top priority. Law enforcement and school officials continue to stress the importance of reporting threats or concerning behavior to ensure a safe environment for all students.

Parents and community members are encouraged to discuss appropriate behavior and the seriousness of making threats, especially in school settings. As the case progresses, authorities are expected to handle the matter with care, considering the age of the involved student.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
