Learn about 4-H on Thursday, at the fairgrounds Expo Hall

BEDFORD – Purdue Extension-Lawrence County and Lawrence County 4-H are pleased to announce a “Learn about 4-H” Information Session scheduled for Thursday, October 10, at the Fairgrounds Expo Hall.

This informative open- house is tailored for new, prospective, and current 4-H members and their families eager to explore the exciting opportunities 4-H offers. Current members can also benefit by seeing other ways to get involved.

The session will take place from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. and promises attendees an engaging and interactive experience. Purdue Extension-Lawrence County experts and 4-H leaders will be on hand to provide essential information about the 4-H program, its various projects, and the numerous benefits of participation.

“We are excited to welcome new and potential members to the 4-H family and provide them with valuable insights into the enriching experiences that await them,” said Lesley Lodmell, Extension Educator for 4-H and Youth Development at Purdue Extension-Lawrence County. “4-H is not just a program; it’s a community where young minds can grow, learn, and create lasting memories.”

The information session will cover:

  1. Overview of the 4-H Program: Learn about the history, values, and mission of 4-H.
  2. Project Opportunities: Discover the diverse range of projects available for 4-H members to explore and develop skills.
  3. Benefits of Participation: Understand the positive impact that 4-H involvement can have on personal
    development, leadership skills, and community engagement.
  4. Registration Process: Get step-by-step guidance on how to become a 4-H member.

The event is free and open to all interested families. Attendees can ask questions, interact with current 4-H volunteers, and gain a firsthand understanding of the supportive 4-H community.

“We encourage parents and guardians to bring their children to this information session to discover the numerous ways 4-H can help them grow as individuals and leaders in our community,” added Lodmell.

If you are interested or have time available, there is a 4-H experience for you. 4-H is the largest youth organization in the nation, and there is a place for you with many different clubs, trips, scholarships, and other opportunities available.

Enrollment will open on October 1. The process is easy with the 4HOnline system, https://in.4honline.com. You can also stop by our office for questions or assistance. The $20 fee per child includes all Indiana 4-H program fees for members in grades 3-12. The fee for Mini 4-H members (grades K-2) is $5. These fees include as many clubs and/or projects as you would like.
