ORLEANS — During its regular general work and study session last Wednesday morning, the Orleans Town Council recognized two of its employees, Ethan Edwards and Aiden Premo, for their commendable actions in assisting a town resident who had fallen outside their home. Both employees were presented with Letters of Commendation for their quick response, which included calling 911 and providing temporary aid until medical personnel arrived.
Town Superintendent Daniel Houchin reported on ongoing projects, including Bill Hopper Construction’s pouring new sidewalks. The sidewalk project will be phased in over several years as budget funds become available, with the initial section primarily located on the east side of town.
Houchin also informed residents about scheduled maintenance on the town’s water tower, which is expected to cause fluctuations in water pressure for some local customers in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the first phase of new residential water meters is set to begin installation by mid-October. Residents may notice workers throughout the community wearing identification badges as they conduct the installations. The Town Office can answer any questions regarding the meter changeover during regular business hours.
Construction is progressing on the new Monon South Trail, which will run through Orleans. A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Governor Holcomb is scheduled for early December to officially open the first paved section of the 62-mile recreational trail.
In celebration of the Orleans Chamber of Commerce’s 80th anniversary, the council proclaimed October 18th as “Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day.” Council members encouraged residents and business owners to engage with the Chamber and support local businesses and organizations.
