CASA Volunteers advocate for children in need during National Children’s Safety Month

BEDFORD – As National Children’s Safety Month approaches, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers across the country are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of children in foster care. CASA volunteers are trained advocates who are appointed by a court to represent the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.

During National Children’s Safety Month, CASA volunteers will be raising awareness about the importance of child safety and advocating for policies that protect children. They will also be highlighting the critical role they play in ensuring that children in foster care have safe, stable, and permanent homes.

“Lawrence County CASA volunteers are representing the best interest of children,” according to Rich Kosmala, Lawrence County CASA Program Director.

CASA volunteers provide a variety of services to children in foster care, including:

  • Advocating for the child’s best interests in court and in other settings
  • Providing a stable and supportive relationship for the child
  • Helping the child understand the court process and their rights
  • Assisting the child in developing life skills such as budgeting, cooking, and problem-solving
