Indiana State Police partners with DEA for Drug Take Back Day

INDIANA — The Indiana State Police is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the 27th nationwide “Prescription Drug Take Back” initiative on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

The event aims to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by providing a safe and anonymous way to dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications. Collection sites will be set up nationwide, including at Indiana State Police posts (except for the Toll Road Post).

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, and studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends. Additionally, disposing of unused medicines improperly can pose safety and health hazards.

To participate, simply bring your unwanted prescription medications to any participating location between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on October 26. Vaping pens without batteries and vaping cartridges will also be accepted, but needles will not.
