WASHINGTON CO. – An Indianapolis woman was killed and another man severely injured when the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a passenger car late Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Indiana State Police with a fatal crash that occurred on US 150 between Becks Mill Road and High Street in Fredericksburg. Trooper Ben Davis and Sergeant Dustin Zehnder, who were part of the Sellersburg Post’s crash reconstruction team, responded.
As a result of the initial investigation, officers believe that a red and black 2025 Honda tricycle-style motorcycle, commonly known as a trike, was eastbound on US 150 approaching Becks Mill Road. As the motorbike continued eastbound, a white 2002 Toyota Corolla began pulling onto US150 from a private drive on the south side of US 150. As the Corolla pulled out onto the highway, the two vehicles collided, throwing the driver and the passenger off the bike and onto the roadway.
Tragically, the passenger, 67-year-old Theresa Marie Spencer of Indianapolis, was killed in the impact. The driver, who is from Louisville, Kentucky, suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla received minor injuries and was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Salem.
The investigation is ongoing. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be factors in this crash.
The roadway remained closed during the investigation, which was assisted by officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
The family of the deceased has been notified.
