Greene County man arrested for trespassing and firearm offenses after throwing gun into White River

BLOOMFIELD — On Friday, October 25, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to a trespassing complaint on South Baseline Road near the covered bridge area. The property owner reported seeing individuals open a gate and drive down a path leading toward the White River.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered two males on a sandbar along the river. When approached, one of the men, identified as John Michael from Vincennes, fled on foot into the river in an apparent attempt to evade capture. Witnesses reported seeing Michael throw items from his person into the water as he fled.

As additional officers arrived, Michael surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. During the arrest, it was revealed that he had active warrants out of Knox, Daviess, and Martin Counties.

On the following day, Saturday, October 26, deputies returned to the scene to search for the items Michael had discarded. Using magnets, they successfully located and recovered a handgun from the river near the area where Michael had been seen throwing objects.
