Obituary: Zenobia Rae Olson

November 1, 1937 – October 26, 202

Lifelong Bedford resident Zenobia R. (Finney) Olson passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was 86.

Ms. Finney graduated from Bedford High School in 1955, where she met her future husband-to-be, local businessman Volney E. Olson, in the high school band. After high school, Mrs. Olson attended Northwood Institute.

Mrs. Olson participated in numerous charitable organizations at the community level. Bedford Medical Center Auxiliary, The Heart Fund, The Cancer Fund, and the United Fund Drives are just a few examples. She served on the board of directors of the Bedford Boys Club, where in 1969, she was named “Woman of the Year” for her volunteer efforts. Over her career, she worked as a school aid at Stalker Elementary School in Bedford, at Lawrence County Highway Department, and at Crane Navel Weapons Support Center.

Mrs. Olson participated in Lawrence County politics and, in 1976, ran unsuccessfully for Lawrence County Recorder.

Mrs. Olson was born to Paul L. and Dorothy L. Finney on November 1, 1937. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Volney E. Olson, Sr., on September 25, 2021.

She is survived by her two sons, Volney, Jr. and Vance Olson (Tonda), who live in Indianapolis, with four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Day & Carter Mortuary, 1133 Lincoln Avenue, Bedford, on October 31st from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 12:30, with a burial to follow in a private ceremony at Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
